SHAPE-ID Workshop on Environmental Humanities Takes Place at the University of Edinburgh

The second SHAPE-ID workshop, organised at the University of Edinburgh this week by our partners Professor Catherine Lyall and Dr Isabel Fletcher, was a great success. We spent two days with Environmental Humanities scholars, policy makers and funders, to explore what specific contributions the humanities can and do make to societal challenges research related to environmental concerns in the context of inter- and transdisciplinary research. First SHAPE-ID Workshop Takes Place at Trinity College Dublin

We were delighted to host the first of six planned SHAPE-ID workshops this week in Dublin. Over an inspiring two days, a highly engaged group of researchers, policy makers, funders and experts from the cultural sector and industry joined the SHAPE-ID team at the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts & Humanities Research Institute at Trinity College Dublin to tackle the question of how Arts and Humanities disciplines can position themselves as leaders or equal partners in research addressing societal challenges. SHAPE-ID at the Association for Interdisciplinary Studies Conference 2019

SHAPE-ID partners, Bianca Vienni, Jack Spaapen and Catherine Lyall, together with Expert Panel member Julie Klein, recently represented the project at the international Association for Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) conference in Amsterdam. Hosted by the University of Amsterdam’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (24-26 October), the sold-out event attracted 30 different nationalities from five continents to exchange knowledge about interdisciplinarity in global contexts. This 41st annual meeting of the Association provided an invaluable vehicle for networking with world-leading scholars of interdisciplinary research and teaching and for disseminating information about emerging findings and future plans for the SHAPE-ID project. Jane Ohlmeyer Presents at EU R&I Days Session on Integrating Social Sciences and Humanities

SHAPE-ID Coordinator Professor Jane Ohlmeyer presented at the EU Research & Innovation Days Session 'Me and My Society - Integrating the Social Sciences and Humanities' on 24th September. The session focused on the future of the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) in science and research policy and was organised as a co-design exercise with audience members following short presentations by the three panel members. SHAPE-ID to Contribute to Euresearch Switzerland Webinar on ‘Horizon 2020 Opportunities for Social Sciences and Humanities’

SHAPE-ID Research Fellow Dr Bianca Vienni Baptista of ETH Zurich will introduce SHAPE-ID as part of a webinar organised by Euresearch, the Swiss guide to European research and innovation, on 16 October 2019. SHAPE-ID is looking forward to presenting a Poster and Lightning Talk at the Herrenhausen Symposium: Positioning the Humanities in the 2020s next week. SHAPE-ID partners at the Transdisciplinarity Lab (TdLab) in ETH Zurich will host a seminar on early results from the SHAPE-ID literature review on 17 September 2019, with a keynote presentation by Professor Julie Thompson Klein, Professor of Humanities Emerita in the English Department at Wayne State University, International Research Affiliate of the TdLab and a valued member of the SHAPE-ID Expert Panel. SHAPE-ID planning a busy conference season as two major ITD conferences take place in Europe

SHAPE-ID partners will present at a number of upcoming conferences on inter- and transdisciplinarity taking place in September and October 2019. International Transdisciplinary Conference 2019 Td-net (Network for Transdisciplinary Research) organised its first International Transdisciplinary Conference 11 years ago. Since then, the field has developed considerably and this year’s conference, hosted by the University of Gothenburg (10-13 September), will bring together this growing body of practitioners and researchers who are working on different types of collaborative research to examine the state of the art in both research and practice across sectors and disciplines. SHAPE-ID Project Meeting and Co-Design Workshop

SHAPE-ID project partners met at ISINNOVA's offices in Rome from 13-14 June for our second project meeting and Co-Design Workshop. We spent a morning reviewing progress so far, sharing insights on AHSS integration from the existing literature on interdisciplinary research, discussing plans for completing upcoming project deliverables and agreeing on an overall approach for our learning case workshops. This was followed by a very productive workshop that took place over a full afternoon and a second morning, where we began to work out the details of each of the six workshops. SHAPE-ID Poster Presentation at TCD Research Showcase

TCD partners were pleased to present SHAPE-ID at a research showcase organised by the Trinity Long Room Hub on 1 May, coinciding with the opening of the only Irish performance of 'Looking for Europe', a dramatic reading by Bernard-Henri Lévy. This showcase was a wonderful opportunity to speak to diverse members of the public about the project's aims and plans. Unsurprisingly, many intuitively understood the importance of bringing perspectives from the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences to bear on addressing significant societal challenges.
